Breakfast Van
Our Mission:
The Breakfast Ministry is an outreach component of the Toronto Harbour Light Corps. Seven mornings each week, the staff begins at 3:00 a.m. to prepare a special breakfast of porridge,
toast, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, plus any other goodies that cross their path. This takes about an hour; there is a time of prayer and they hit the streets about 5:15 a.m. during a four-hour period, the van roams the downtown core of Toronto, serving approximately 50 people per morning in the winter months, and up to 100 people per morning in the summer. The Breakfast van carries bibles, emergency clothing as well as information on treatment centres, food banks, drop-ins and counseling services.
The Corps believes in the creation and use of opportunities to present the Gospel. We are aware that a person’s basic needs must be met before they can become open to God’s Word – if one is distracted by hunger, cold or fear, it is difficult to focus on a message. The philosophy of the Breakfast Ministry is to meet basic needs by being the hands of God and to provide spiritual care to the lost living on the street.
Volunteer opportunities for this ministry include:
- Outreach work on the van
- Maintenance of the van and the provisions
- Financial/donations of products
- Prayer group
We are very grateful to all those who contribute their time, talent and resources to this ministry.
