Street Youth Ministry

Our Mission:
The Street Youth Ministry is an outreach component of the Toronto Harbour Light Corps. Seven evenings each week, the staff and volunteers gather at 5:00 p.m. to prepare for the evening’s ministry. This would include food preparation, loading of the van, maintenance of the van and most importantly, bathing the ministry in prayer. There are three locations in the downtown core that the van stops for an hour. The Street Youth Ministry is fully stocked with bibles, emergency clothing, food, and list of resources in the downtown core as well as staff and volunteers on fire for God. Approximately 40 youth are served each evening in the winter; the numbers are as high as 70 per evening in the summer.
Each youth that is served through this ministry is treated with the individual dignity, kindness, respect and unconditional love they deserve. Staff and volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to be God’s hands in this situation; meeting basic needs and creating opportunity for presentation of the Gospel. It should be noted that this ministry allows for relationships to be built and that the care of the youth is extended as long as necessary; in other words, it does not stop when a youth makes a decision for Christ, or a decision to make lifestyle changes such as getting off the street or finding gainful employment. Staff and volunteers are available for life skills training, can assist with job and housing searches as well as ongoing spiritual care.

We are very grateful to all those who contribute their time, talent and resources to this ministry.
